There are many ways you can get involved and help with Dutchess Watershed Awareness Month!
Become A Sponsor
We are looking for sponsors that will help defray some of the cost and/or promote our events. If you or your company are interested in becoming a Dutchess Watershed Awareness Month Sponsor please visit our sponsors page for more information. You can also contact us at (845) 677-8223, ext. 135 or by email. Donations can be in the form of monetary support or in-kind donations of needed materials (i.e. trash bags, gloves, food and beverages, T-shirts, banners).
Volunteer at an Event
Contact us and let us know if you would like to help out at any of the listed Watershed Awareness Month events; or attend one of our meetings and help us plan for next year’s Watershed Awareness Month. For more information on how you can volunteer, contact Carolyn at cak97@cornell.edu.
Host an Event in Your Community
The easiest way to host an event in your community is by organizing an Adopt-A-Spot cleanup! Our watersheds are made up of more than just the creeks and rivers- they include the parks, streets, and neighborhoods we live in. Help to beautify our watersheds by picking up litter and spreading the word that the actions we take on our land affect the quality of our water resources.
1. Pick a spot in your watershed that needs a little cleaning up
2. Find a group of people to help you
3. Choose a date and time-and do it
If you choose a date during the month of July, a member of the Dutchess Watershed Coalition will help coordinate your spot with you. For more information contact Carolyn at (845) 677-8223, ext. 135 or cak97@cornell.edu.
Spread the Word
Tell your friends, neighbors, co-workers and anyone else who will listen about Dutchess Watershed Awareness Month 2009 events in your community. Invite them to join you at an event and learn together about our beautiful water resources in Dutchess County and why it is so important to protect them. Word of mouth is the best form of advertisement, so please help us get the word out.
Join Your Local Watershed Group!
If you are interested in local environmental issues and protecting our valuable water resources in Dutchess County, consider attending your local watershed group’s next meeting. Contact information for each group is presented on the Dutchess Watershed Coalition page. If you are unsure about which watershed you live in, or would like more information, feel free to contact Carolyn at 845-677-8223, ext. 135 or by email.
